This is Civibus- the magazine for the thinking citizen.

In the year 2026, we live in a tumultuous world. The Middle East descends into yet another brutal and dangerous war, with ramifications set to be unleashed across the globe; artificial intelligence challenges the fundamental existence of the human race; climate change continues to pose an even greater threat. This instability has inspired us to create a magazine for people who want to understand the complex issues facing our world, for the thinking citizens.

“Civibus” is Latin for citizens. The Roman Empire has influenced modern society in countless different ways- from use of the Roman Alphabet in the words we read and write- to the geometry of roads and names of towns and places. From the three branches of government to power struggles to the justice system, there are numerous similarities in the politics of the liberal democratic west of the present day and Ancient Rome two thousand years ago.
Ultimately, Civibus is the translation of the word “citizens.” This will be a magazine for people who want to understand and question the issues of the present day, and we will be committed to delivering our coverage and content to those people. You, the reader, will drive this project and we will welcome your thoughts, contributions and criticisms. We are firm that this magazine will remain free of charge for you when reading our core content. Everyone is tired of the media class sucking readers dry of their resources simply to catch up in an ever-changing world.
Therefore, this magazine is called “Civibus”- both to represent the political and societal influence Rome has on us in the present day, but also to reflect our central ambition: content for every thinker.

I’d like to return to the chaos unfolding in this world. From Iran to the United States, tech to climate change, we believe that we can explain the current problems and crossroads this world faces by explaining the instruments of politics, international affairs, economics and philosophy. These are essential to understanding modern existence, because power structures and an evolving door of factors, including reduced attention spans as a result of social media, or generally an increase of sheer anger as a result of poor governance and globalisation, are increasingly demanding reckless and ruleless figures such as President Donald Trump. Take any world leader or event- and understanding their politics, histories and philosophies- will explain why, for example, the price of petrol skyrockets or AI data centres push up energy bills.
Our purpose is to empower thinkers with the knowledge, insight and thoughts behind the ideas and systems behind current affairs. I hope you join us.
